Together in war and peace
During the 1960s, the Cold War is the coldest with several disturbances around the world. The Cuban Missile Crisis almost starts a third world war, the US sends soldiers to Vietnam and the great powers race for arms.
The main adversaries in the Cold War are the West's military organization NATO and the East's counterpart the Warsaw Pact. Non-aligned Sweden is not a member of any of them, but is attracted to the West.
It is during the 1960s that Sweden's military preparedness is at its greatest. We can call in 800,000 soldiers and have one of the world's largest air forces.
The years go by and Sweden's view of preparedness changes, it is down-prioritized and weakened. Now, 60 years later, we face new dangers and need to strengthen our preparedness again.
